These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you ("you", "user") and SpecCV ("SpecCV", "we", "us") for your access to and use of speccv.com and all related services (collectively "the Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.
If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom or European Union, you have additional rights under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, and local consumer protection legislation. These Terms do not limit those rights.
SpecCV provides an AI-assisted CV and cover letter drafting tool, ATS compatibility scoring, CV template library, and related export and review features ("the Service"). The Service is provided on an "as is" basis.
AI-generated content. Drafts produced by the Service are generated by AI and may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or errors. You are solely responsible for reviewing all content before using it in a job application. SpecCV does not guarantee that any CV or cover letter will result in an interview or employment offer.
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
You agree not to use the Service to:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section without notice.
The free plan provides access to core CV drafting features subject to a monthly usage quota. We reserve the right to change the limits of the free plan at any time with reasonable notice.
Paid plans are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through our payment processor (Stripe). By subscribing, you authorise recurring charges to your payment method until you cancel.
14-day cooling-off period
If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you have the right to cancel a new purchase within 14 days of payment under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (UK) / EU Directive 2011/83/EU — unless you have already redeemed (used) credits during that period.
By using credits immediately after purchase, you expressly consent to the provision of the digital content beginning within the cancellation period. If you exercise your right to cancel after having used credits, any refund will be reduced proportionally to reflect the credits already consumed.
To exercise your right to cancel, contact us at support@speccv.com or via our contact form within 14 days of purchase, stating your intention to cancel.
Statutory rights. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a UK or EU consumer, including rights under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 for digital content that does not conform to contract.
Outside of statutory cancellation rights (Section 7), refunds are at our discretion. We will consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis where a billing error has occurred or the Service was materially unavailable. Contact support@speccv.com with details of your request.
Your content. You retain ownership of any CV text, job descriptions, and other content you upload or input into the Service. You grant SpecCV a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We do not use your content to train AI models.
Our content. SpecCV owns all rights in the platform, templates, user interface, software, and brand assets. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works from these without our written permission.
Generated drafts. CV and cover letter drafts produced by the Service are assigned to you for personal use. You may use, edit, and share them freely.
The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, SpecCV disclaims all implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
SpecCV does not guarantee that: (a) the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free; (b) any CV or cover letter will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any specific job application; or (c) use of the Service will result in employment.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SpecCV shall not be liable for:
Our aggregate liability for any claim arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total fees you paid to SpecCV in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) £50 GBP.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
By you. You may close your account at any time via Account settings. On closure, your account data will be deleted per our Privacy Policy.
By us. We may suspend or terminate your account with immediate effect if you breach these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or we are required to do so by law. We will endeavour to give you notice where legally permitted.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where applicable consumer law in your country of residence provides you with the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
Before raising a formal dispute, please contact us at support@speccv.com — most issues can be resolved quickly.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
